CIVIL ACTION AGAINST BANCO POPULAR

Quetglas Law Office announced the filing of an Amended Complaint in the civil action against Popular, Inc., for the violation of the federal Exchange and Securities’ Act Laws, to include additional clients and an additional claim to collect for the unpaid monthly payments of the 8.25% annual dividends for the preferred stock.

San Juan, PR – March 8, 2011-

Attorney Eric Quetglas explained that although Class Actions are a useful vehicle to obtain compensation for large groups of people where each has a relatively small claim that would not otherwise be claimed individually, such mechanism is not always the best for the handling of large individual claims that warrant individual attention.

Attorney Quetglas explained that its Office filed this Amended Complaint to include new clients that are joining the action to individually request monetary compensation for their economic losses as a result of their purchase of Popular’s common and preferred stock. The Amended Complaint, which was filed on behalf of Seventy (70) investors, was also amended to include an additional claim to collect for the unpaid monthly payments of the 8.25% annual dividends for the preferred stock. This claim was not made in the Class Action Complaint. The new claim was included in the Amended Individual’s Action Complaint to ensure that these individual claimants obtain compensation for the economic losses sustained by them due to Popular’s failure to fulfill its obligation to pay those dividends.

Popular has already agreed to pay $37.5 Million Dollars to settle all claims related to this litigation.

The filing of this action on behalf of the individual claimants should maximize their monetary compensation, either from their participation of the funds already set aside by Popular and its insurers to settle all claims, or from additional funds that should be paid by Popular to cover these new claims.
